We had a good meeting last night; Kevin Madigan, myself, Niall O'Neill and Linda Syme attended.
We have decided to organise 4 weekend days and 1 week day during the month of April 2011 to the Midleton Spring Clean campaign. The month of April is An Taisce's oficial Spring Clean Month anyway so it fits nicely.
Here is a provisional schedule of dates and areas that we will target: (this is subject to change)
Saturday 2 April - volunteers - Mill Rd., Brookdale, East Cork Oil, East Cork Golf Club, Carrigogna
Tuesday 5 April - CBS Transition Year Students + volunteers - Aldi/Lidl area, Bailick Road, the Estuary, People's Walk, Ballyannan, Dwyers Rd.
Saturday 9 April - volunteers - Tesco area, Knockgriffin, New Bypass, Cork Rd., Cork Rd., Flyover
Saturday 16 April - volunteers - The Park, Rugby Club, Broomfield East, Dungourney Rd. Roxborough Rd.
Saturday 30 April - volunteers - (provisional) Lisgoold road and Ballinaclasha forest
We aim to start each day at 9.30am and finish around 3pm.
I want to ask you all to spread the word please and find some more dedicated volunteers if you can. Please forward me email addresses of interested people so I can add them to our mail outs.
Closer to the dates we will be contacting the local media and radio to get some free publicity, which will hopefully bring out more volunteers. We can take some photos during the clean ups and have them published afterwards also. An Taisce also organises local media support centrally so we should get good publicity.
We will also contact Midleton UDC to ask them for collection of the waste and any other support they may want to give. Niall O'Neill mentioned that he will be meeting Billy Buckley today on another matter and he will mention what we are trying to do to him.
