EDA Six week Development Education Programme 2011 Wednesday 26th January – 2nd March _____________________________________________________________________
Overall Topic: Development Myths The purpose of the six week programme is to explore, discuss and dispel in a discursive manner many of the myths and misconceptions that people may have around six specific development related topics. The programme will give participants the opportunity to actively discuss and examine the chosen topics with experts from each field in an inviting and informal setting.
The programme will run on consecutive Wednesday nights from the 26th January 2011 from 7pm until 8.30-9pm at the Victoria hotel on Patrick Street, Cork. Refreshments will be provided. The six areas to be examined are myths surrounding:
The environment / climate change
Volunteering / voluntourism (specifically in developing countries)
Asylum seekers / refuges
Trade (specifically between developed and developing countries)
Food and food production
The current economic model and growth
By the end of the six weeks each participant will have a good understanding of the key aspects of each of the topics. Through providing participants with all the relevant information the programme hopes to create discussion and allow participants the space to draw their own conclusions. The aim is to develop the understanding of each participant to the level where she or he will be able to pass on what they have learned to friends' colleagues or family. Participants will receive a hard/paper copy of all the materials used by the presenters and a soft copy on a flash drive for their future reference.
Each participant who completes a minimum of five of the six weeks will receive a certificate of attendance from Ethical Development Action to demonstrate that they have completed this Irish Aid sponsored development education programme.
Cost for six weeks:
Employed €0
Students and unemployed €0
Asylum seekers/refugees €0
