UN Climate Talks in Bonn, June 6 to 17, 2011

First responders training for oiled wildlife - looking for volunteers

In November of this year SEA-PT (Shannon Estuary Anti Pollution Team) will provide training for  a group of oiled wildlife first responders. They will need approx 25 dedicated individuals who are interested in assisting if and when a serious pollution event threatens our wildlife. Open Days at INFF

The Irish Natural Forestry Foundation are hosting Open Days each Month until December. The next Open Day takes place on Sunday 3rd July, 2011 Open Days are held on the first Sunday of every month. Volunteers sought for Bog Woodland Survey on Lodge Bog Co. Kildare

The Irish Peatland Conservation Council are undertaking an extensive survey of the bog woodland habitat on their reserve Lodge Bog in county Kildare. "From this survey we hope to gain more knowledge of bog woodland habitats which are an EU conservation priority and a little known face of Irish bogs" says Michael Kenny, Conservation Officer with the IPCC. This survey will also assist with the management of this habitat for biodiversity conservation in the future. Minister Hogan launches Coca-Cola Clean Coast Week

Turf cutters deal raised 'false hopes'

The Peatlands Council is being 'ill advised' by the Government and needs to take urgent legal advice, according to the environmental group Friends of the Irish Environment. Dublin's First Home Composting Demonstration Site to be Opened at Airfield

Families and businesses throughout Dublin are keen to save money.  With the help of South Dublin County Council, Dún-Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and the Stop Food Waste initiative of the EPA, a new home composting demonstration site has been built by the programme's newly trained  Master Composters at Airfield in Dundrum. IWT announce formation of a new branch

The Irish Wildlife Trust is delighted to announce the formation of a new branch in Longford and Westmeath. Noreen Mc Loughlin is leading the way by organising a meeting at the Ballymahon Library at 7.00pm on Tuesday the 14th of June and everyone is welcome. Action Plan for seabirds launched as mass seabird deaths come to light

Urgent actions that are required for the protection of Irish seabirds and the marine environment were highlighted by Minister Jimmy Deenihan as he launched a multi-stakeholder plan led by Ireland's largest wildlife charity, BirdWatch Ireland. CELT builds viking boat

Trainees with CELT (Centre for Environmental Living and Training), the East Clare-based charity NGO, are building a traditional lake boat in the clinker-built Viking style.  According to CELT tutor Del Harding, who is supervising the work over several weekends at his workshop in Bealkelly Wood, Tuamgraney, boats south of the Shannon have followed a design brought by Celts from the Mediterranean region but north of the Shannon was very much influenced by the Vikings.
