These are the dates for our work horse courses in June and July 2011:
One-day workshop:
Introduction to working with horses and horse-drawn tools
This course covers the following topics:
a.. History of the work horse
b.. Different breeds of draft horses
c.. Care for the work horse
d.. Different types of harness
e.. Harnessing the work horse correctly
f.. Long-reining with one and two horses
g.. Different horse-drawn tools and their use in farming
Participants do not need previous experience with horses for this course - beginners are welcome!
This course will be held on the following dates in 2011:
a.. Saturday, 11th June
b.. Saturday, 2nd July
One-day workshop:
Introduction to training a horse to work in harness
This course covers the following topics:
a.. How to start training a horse
b.. Confidence and trust building with the horse
c.. Getting the horse used to a work environment
d.. Getting the horse used to harness and draft work
e.. Starting to work in chains and shafts
f.. First work in the field
Participants require some experience and knowledge of handling horses for this course. Ideally, participants would have attended the course "Introduction to working with horses and horse-drawn tools" already.
This course will be held on the following dates in 2011:
a.. Sunday, 12th June
b.. Sunday, 3rd July
