A start up waste facility specialising in handling food and animal by product waste is seeking to recruit a horticultural scientist. The waste facility will produce compost as a horticultural growing media and will supply horticultural products, such as compost and other growing media, for wholesale and retail business in Ireland. The waste facility will handle between 10 and 20 thousands tons annually.
This role will include the following responsibilities:
- Oversee the composting process in the company's composting facility so as to provide effective, stable raw material for the production of growing media.
- Analyse incoming feedstock to the facility for C:N ratios
- Prepare correct mixing ratio prior to composting
- Conduct ongoing analysis of raw materials including moisture, oxygen, ph, odour levels and construction of static pile open windrows
- Liaise with sales and marketing personnel to originate new product ideas
- Optimise the product range through effective R & D
- Manage daily requirements of the compost facility
The ideal candidate will have posses the following range of skills and experience:
- Be educated to Phd level qualification in horticulture or a related discipline
- Minimum 5 years in a leadership role in similar facility
- Attention to detail and accuracy is a requirement
- Good organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be flexible, adaptable and energetic
- Demonstrate use of initiative and ability to troubleshoot
- Posses relevant safety training certificates and machinery licences
- Appropriate membership of relevant professional bodies an advantage but not a requirement
