Apple Weekend Sept 24th and Sept 25th with Darina Allen

Darina Allen to give Cookery Demonstration at Irish Seed Savers at their Open Weekend on Sunday September 25th in Scariff, Co Clare
 

Irish Seed Savers Association will be holding their annual Apple Day on Saturday September 24th and Sunday September 25th 2011 from 12 to 5 on both days, at Irish Seed Savers in Scariff Co Clare. This is Seed Saves 20th year and this year they are delighted to have Darina Allen giving a Cookery demonstration on Sunday September 25th. "Darina is a great supporter of Irish Seed Savers and we are very grateful that she has decided to donate her time so freely in coming to Irish Seed Savers on September 25th to support us and give a cookery demonstration" says Geraldine Tobin Marketing Coordinator with Irish Seed Savers. "We are expecting a great crowd and again we are asking everyone to park at the local school as there is no parking on site", she adds. "There will be 6 shuttle buses leaving every 5 mins to go the short distance to the site. Saturday September 24th is the day for supporters of Irish Seed Savers and Sunday 25th is the day for the public to come and see exactly what we do and enjoy tasting of some of the 140 varieties of apples we have here as well as all the other cookery, cheesemaking, bee keeping and traditional skills demonstrations running over the 2 days. As well as Darina Allen giving a cookery demonstration we are delighted to have a Japanese cookery demonstration running on both days by 2 Japanese ladies living in Clare and a gluten free cookery demonstration by Cate Conway.

We also have a range of childrens activities including puppet shows, Bug Hunts and craft activities. There will be live music on both days as well as an organic Cafe , Pizza from the wood fired oven and many more food stalls. There will also be talks on apples and people can buy native apple trees so it will be a great day out for all the family.

Irish Seed Savers has 20 acres of Organic Heritage Orchards, Seed Gardens, and Woodlands are open 7 days a week to visitors. The annual open day gives visitors a chance to taste the heritage apples and see more of what happens at this environmental charity where they grow out, conserve and save the seed of over 800 heritage varieties of vegetables, apples, potatoes and grains. A selection of these varieties are then made available to Irish Seed Savers supporters and the public.
