The IEN AGM will be held in our new offices  -1 Green St, Dublin 7. on 20th October 2010.

Loophole in National Monuments legislation alleged

A loophole in the National Monuments legislation means that over 126,000 recorded monuments and sites in Ireland have no legal protection.

State to face daily EU fines over Haulbowline

The European Commission has confirmed to Friends of the Irish Environment that they have issued the final letter of formal notice to Ireland over the State's failure to licence the toxic dump on Haulbowline Island. The matter will return to the European Court for daily fines unless action is taken without further delay.

Shorebirds of Ireland - an illustrated talk by Mark Carmody at the Spirit Store on Monday 4th October 2010 at 8pm.
Dundalk Bay holds the largest number of over-wintering shorebirds in Ireland. Last year peak numbers in January exceeded 60,000 birds, with 38 regularly occurring species. This exceeds the Shannon estuary, Dublin bay and Strangford Lough, [...]





Avaaz.org run 'Trees not tricks' campaign

Avaaz.org are calling on the public to contact European Environment Ministers  to urge them to block an attempt to create loopholes on forestry in the global climate treaty currently under negotiation.

GreenWorks Ireland, a national training programme for sustainable and green technology has been awarded funding by the Department of Education & Skills through the newly created Labour Market Activation Fund (LMAF) and is backed by the European Social Fund. This initiative has been established in March of this year and is designed to allow jobseekers to up skill their existing qualifications, take the next step in education or to allow them to move into employment.[...]

To mark 2010 International Year of Biodiversity, the National Museum of Ireland- Natural History will hold a two-day seminar on Irish Biodiversity. This seminar brings Ireland's biodiversity experts together to a public forum for the first time to present their most up-to-date research.
