Two novel MSc courses starting in NUIG this September have been devised to meet the needs of people interested in environmental careers.
1. MSc in Sustainable Resource Management:Policy & Practice
A full time MSc in Sustainable Resource Management:Policy and Practice is a multidiscplinary approach to environmental sustainability run by NUI Galway and University of Limerick based on the specialisms of both colleges. Students spend Semester 1 in NUIG learning about landscape and conservation management and are based in UL for Semester 2 where they learn about urban sustainability. Students spend Semester 3 undertaking a research project, based at either institution. Assessment is ongoing and there are no exams.
Students can avail of facilities from both colleges throughout the year and will graduate with a jointly awarded degree.
Entry requirements: At least a 2nd Class honours in a relevant subject (Environmental Sciences/Economics/Engineering or Geography/Ecology or Biological Sciences.) Mature students with relevant experience are most welcome to apply.

2. MSc in Biodiversity and Land Use Planning
A two year part time distance learning MSc in Biodiversity and Land Use Planning seeks to integrate biodiversity within land use policy. It is particularly relevant for Local Authority staff but would be applicable to consultants as well.
This is a distance learning course with attendance at lectures and fieldtrips every 5 weeks at NUI Galway. As well as ongoing assessment, there are written exams at the end of each semester.
Entry requirements: Level 8 primary degree in an appropriate discipline. Mature students with relevant experience are most welcome to apply.
