6th Meeting of the Irish Environmental History Network, 7th October

You are warmly invited to the Sixth Meeting of the Irish Environmental History Network.

The meeting will feature a talk by Jan Streefkerk, Dutch Forestry Commission, entitled "Twenty-one Years Working on Conservation and  Restoration of Raised Bogs in Ireland".

Peat-cutting is causing a rapid subsidence in Clara Bog West. Together with Trinity College Dublin and the Queen's University Belfast an attempt is being made to find a solution to stop or slowdown the subsidence. Over the last decades a large number of scientists and research students have worked on ecology and hydrology of the raised bogs in Ireland. Jan's talk will give an overview of the work that is done.

A full abstract is available here: http://www.tcd.ie/longroomhub/iehn/meetings/streefkerkj.php

The meeting will take place in Room 5025 Arts Block, Trinity College Dublin, from 5pm, Thursday 7 October.

All welcome.
