European Fisheries Must Go "Back to the Future"

Dublin (June 3rd, 2011) - On June 4th, OCEAN2012 and the will host a photo exhibit at the National Sea Life Centre Bray. IWT highlights overfishing with afternoon talks

Overfishing and the mislabelling of our fish foodstuffs have been big issues highlighted recently by programmes such as Channel 4's Dispatches and Hugh's Fish Fight. The Irish Wildlife Trust is a member of OCEANS2012, a coalition dedicated to ensure that the 2012 reform of the EU Common Fisheries Policy stops overfishing, ends destructive fishing practices and delivers fair and equitable use of healthy fish stocks. Volunteers sought for Bog Woodland Survey on Lodge Bog Co. Kildare

The Irish Peatland Conservation Council are undertaking an extensive survey of the bog woodland habitat on their reserve Lodge Bog in county Kildare. "From this survey we hope to gain more knowledge of bog woodland habitats which are an EU conservation priority and a little known face of Irish bogs" says Michael Kenny, Conservation Officer with the IPCC. This survey will also assist with the management of this habitat for biodiversity conservation in the future. REPORT: Fieldtrip and music: The North Wexford food from the wild and sea shore interpretation for visitors.

On Sunday May 22nd 'World Biodiversity Day' an international group came down to North Wexford to celebrate. Thirty five visitors came by train, bus and car to N Wexford to celebrate Austrian Maypole day and World Biodiversity Day. Brú na Bóinne World Heritage Site - Public Submissions Invited
