Please Join Us to get daily reports from the 19th annual meeting of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD-19).

The developed and developing countries have come together in New York to find common ground at the 19th annual meeting of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD-19). You can read daily reports from the Commission for Sustainable Development, at www.ien.ie

Fr Sean McDonagh, Irish Colomban priest and renowned ecologist and author is at CSD-19. He will be reporting on a daily basis. His reports are published at the Irish Environmental Network's website, www.ien.ie.

Day 1:

On May 2nd, he reported on speaking at a side event which highlighted abuses of human and environmental rights in Peru. La Oroya is one of the ten most polluted cities in the world. He casts a critical eye on the opening speech given by Laszlo Borbely, Minister of Environment and Forest, of Romania, who "seemed to be unaware of unwilling to address any of these issues".

Day 2:

In his second report he outlined some of the thinking which led to the creation of United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development in 1992.

Visitors to the site are encouraged to comment on the reports, and post questions for Fr McDonagh.

CSD-19 will run until May 13th. To get up to date reports visit www.ien.ie
