| Issue 6, 8 Feb 2011 Hi there, Spring is finally upon us. A time of reorganisation and opportunity, with longer, warmer, days encouraging activity and enterprise. This new enthusiasm is reflected in our ever-expanding schedule offering even more courses to those of you interested in sustainability, the environment and Green Economy jobs. We are also delighted to announce that Green Works registered its 1,000th student this week. We hope that many more will enrol over the coming months, whether your primary motivation is getting a job, caring about the planet or just wanting to learn more about the world in which we live.
Green Days in DublinWe want to highlight two events coming up soon in Dublin: The Green Learning Day takes place on Tuesday, the 22nd of February at The Dublin Hub, an Open Day to celebrate Aontas Adult Learner's Festival. Drop in for an afternoon of films and presentations exploring Ireland's green future and share ideas over tea, coffee and biscuits. Presentations in building, business and permaculture will give participants an introduction to a range of learning available at Green Works. The Green Building Forum takes place from Friday and Saturday, the 11th and 12th of March 2011 at The Dublin Hub. On day one, leading experts present and debate the frameworks, concepts and tools needed to achieve sustainability in the built environment. On day two, there will be facilitated workshops looking at the implementation of the strategies discussed on day one.
Green Works on Today FMThe Green Economy is a hot topic at the moment as Ireland searches for alternative approaches to job creation.  The role of Green Works in promoting the Green Economy, and providing jobs-focussed training, is also gaining a lot of attention. Last month we were featured on one of the country's top drive-time radio shows: The Last Word on TodayFM.  Listen here to Green Works Director of Studies, Devyn Olson-Sawyer, discussing our programme in an interview with Matt Cooper.

News from the Green Works HubsThe Cork Hub is delighted to be showcasing The Irish Reef, a satellite of the world famous Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef Project, from April to June of this year.  This stunning visual display challenges us to think about maths, ecology, marine biology and the destruction of the environment through the use of crochet, itself a beautiful yet declining craft. The Tipperary Hub recently ran a very successful event in Thurles called "Opportunities in the Green Economy." Delivered in partnership with North Tipperary Leader Partnership, the conference focussed on the potential for rural employment in energy, construction, tourism, agriculture, food, craft, and community enterprise.
The Sligo Hub recently organised a tour of Green Buildings in the West of Ireland for its students, adding real world, hands-on, experience to the classroom work. Finally The Dublin Hub has been refurbished with  computers, printers and lots of comfy sofas and chairs for students to work, relax, chat or enjoy a coffee. Remember you are always welcome at any of our hubs so drop by and say hi!
